Richard Doyle Press Release -- Apr. 2, 1998

The Newton County Courthouse Clique has a problem with the candidacy of a non-lawyer running for the office of judge. They want the choice of the voters limited to fellow guild- members of the Mo. Bar, subject to the whims of the Mo State Supreme Court.

In the past it has proven ineffective to have any government organization supervise its own activities and ethics. Such a condition exists at the present time. It is the right and the duty of the people to choose their candidates in open, free, honest elections. The Newton County Courthouse Clique want only their legalistic pawns to determine what is to be "the law" in Newton County, in effect disenfranchising the people and the people's candidates.

According to RSMO 115.526, the only person with standing to challenge my standing to run for judge in the primary election would be another Libertarian candidate. The only person with standing to challenge my candidacy in the general election would be the Republican incumbent. Therefore, the soonest legal challenge would be August 5, 1998. Since the circuit court is the one with original jurisdiction, any attempt to challenge my candidacy by the judicial apparatus would be an overt conflict of interest against the people.

If I am a registered voter on August 27, 1997 and the residency qualifications demand one year's residence, on Nov. 2, 1998 I shall have been a registered voter in Newton County for over one year.

I would like to commend the Newton County Clerk's office for their professionalism in accepting my filing for office according to law, irrespective of the whinings of the Newton County Courthouse Clique.

Greggie Bridges and Greggie Stremel can wait until the cows come home before I will withdraw my candidacy. I'll let the people decide the results of this election contest.

Richard J. Doyle, Sr.
Libertarian Candidate,
Associate Circuit Judge, Div. #2
