a pack of worthless leeches the NRA has become -- read it, and begin to
understand how we have arrived at our present sorry state.

Petition To Urge Responsibility On The Part Of The Republican Majority:
To The Attention Of The Honorable Newt Gingrich,
Speaker Of The House Of Representatives
Whereas, the Republican Majority in Congress was achieved due in large
measure to the support of gun owners nationwide;
Whereas, President Clinton himself openly acknowledged that the
semi-automatic firearms ban cost the Democratic party enough seats to
insure a Republican majority in the House;
Whereas, as Speaker, you are on record as stating that no gun control
legislation would pass while you held the position of Speaker, and yet,
recent actions of Congress have resulted in some of the most onerous gun
bans in history being signed into law; among them, but not limited to,
the Lautenberg Domestic Violence Gun Ban and the Kohl version of Gun
Free School Zones, both which were included in the Omnibus Appropriations
Bill of 1996;
Whereas, numerous initiatives to help restore the rights of law-abiding
citizens such as, but again not limited to, H.R.'s 27, 1009, and 1147,
continue to languish in Committee;
Whereas, as Speaker you are charged with the responsibility of instructing
the Committees to bring such reparative measures to the Floor but have yet
to do so;
Whereas, in the face of this unreasonable recalcitrance to further
legislation which would protect the rights of the gun owning voters
whose actions were in and of themselves largely responsible for your
ascension to a post leaving you third in line for the Presidency, you
have allowed legislation which directly and unconstitutionally impacts
this constituency in a negative and abhorrent manner;
Whereas, the Leadership has by all accounts adopted a policy of ignoring
the numerous, continual, and substantive attempts by advocates of freedom
to rectify the situation;
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED:
That in light of the serious dereliction of Constitutional duty on the
part of the Majority, you have forced the community of gun owners in
this country to demand through this initiative that you immediately
recognize our legitimate concerns. The 105th Congress must go on record
as supporting the Second Amendment freedoms of those who by due process
determined its configuration.
